미 공군, 마지막 QF-4 인도

The 316th and final QF-4 target drone has been delivered to the US Air Force (USAF) at Tyndall Air Force Base (AFB), the service announced on 22 November.

316번째이자 마지막 QF-4 표적무인기가 Tyndall 공군기지에서 미 공군에게 인도 되었다고 공군이 22일 발표하였다.  

The optionally manned McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, serial number 68-0599, recently completed conversion work by BAE Systems after having sat in the 'boneyard' at Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona for 20 years. It was handed over to the 82nd Aerial Target Squadron on 19 November.

유인탑승을 겸한 일련번호 68-0599인 F-4 Phantom II는 아리조나 소재 Davis-Monthan 공군기지에 있는 무덤에 자리잡은지 20년이 지난 후에 최근 BAE Systems에 의해 개수작업을 완료하였다.  해당 기체는 19일 82nd Aerial Target Squadron에게 인도되었다.

According to the USAF, just 60 QF-4s remain in the inventory at Tyndall AFB in Florida and Holloman AFB in New Mexico. Having replaced the QF-106 as the USAF's target drone of choice in 1998, the QF-4 will shortly be superseded by the QF-16.

미 공군에 의하면, 플로리다에 있는 Tyndall 공군기지와 뉴 멕시코에 있는 Holloman 공군기지 격납고를 통틀어 겨우 60대의 QF-4가 남아있다고 한다. 1998년에 미 공군 무인표적기로 선정되어 QF-106을 대체해왔던 QF-4는 곧 QF-16으로 대체될 것이다. 

In October, Boeing was awarded a low-rate initial production (LRIP) award for 13 QF-16s, in addition to the six aircraft already converted under the pre-engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) phase of the programme. In all, the USAF will field 126 QF-16s, with the first set to be fielded in 2014.

QF-16 프로그램 EMD 단계 아래에서 이미 개수된 6대를 포함하여 Boeing은 10월에 13대의 QF-16들에 대한 초기 저율 양산을 수주하였다.

2014년에 1호기 배치가 예정되면서 미 공군은 총 126대의 QF-16을 배치할 것이다.
