The Diehl Defence IRIS-T SL (Surface Launched) surface-to-air missile demonstrated its capability and performance during two test firings conducted at the Overberg Test Range in South Africa in a test campaign that lasted from 4 to 8 November.
These firings were part of the development programme for the new missile (a variant of the IRIS-T air-to-air missile) and its launcher. This programme is being conducted under a contract from the German Federal Office of Equipment, Information Technology and Utilisation of the Bundeswehr.
The firings used low-flying Do-DT25 target drones and represented realistic air-defence scenarios. Both missiles destroyed their targets, one of which was engaged at a distance that the company described as " far beyond 20 km".
