대만, 올리버 해저드급 프리깃함 초도분 2척 도입예정
The first two Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates purchased by Taiwan from the United States are expected to be delivered in 2015, ROC Navy Chief of Staff Kao Tien-chung said Thursday.
대만이 미국으로부터 구입한 Oliver Hazard Perry급 프리깃 초도분 2척이 2015년 인도될 것으로 예상된다고 대만 해군참모총장인 Kao Tien-chung이 목요일에 전했다.
The two warships, which cost NT$5.2 billion (US$176 million), will replace two Knox-class frigates that are in the worst condition of the entire fleet, Kao said during a hearing of the Legislative Yuan's Foreign and National Defense Committee.
가격이 1.76억 불이나 하는 두 군함은 전 함대 중에 가장 최악의 상태에 있는 2척의 Knox급 프리깃을 대체하게 될 것이라고 Kao가 공청회에서 밝혔다.
The ships are part of an order of four Perry-class frigates that the US government has agreed to sell Taiwan, he said.
이번에 받는 함들은 미 정부가 대만에 판매를 허락한 총 4척의 Perry급 프리깃 주문의 일부이다.
On Wednesday, the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs unanimously agreed to introduce legislation that would authorize the sale of the four frigates, namely the USS Taylor (FFG-50), USS Gary (FFG-51), USS Carr (FFG-52) and USS Elrod (FFG-55), to Taiwan.
수요일, 미 하원 외교위원회는 만장일치로 대만에 USS Taylor (FFG-50), USS Gary (FFG-51), USS Carr (FFG-52) and USS Elrod (FFG-55) 등 프리깃 4척 판매 승인에 관련 입법안 도입을 찬성하였다.
The four warships were commissioned between 1984 and 1985 and, except for the USS Gary which was decommissioned in March, are all in active service.
네 척의 군함들은 1984년과 1985년 사이에 진수를 하였고, 3월에 퇴역을 했던 USS Gary를 제외한 나머지 전부는 현역으로 있는 상태이다.
Also during the hearing, Kao said that between 2015 and 2018, Taiwan will design and build one salvage ship prototype and another amphibious warfare ship on its own.
또한 공청회에서, Kao는 대만이 2015년과 2018년 사이에 자체적으로 인양선 시제기와 상륙함을 설계하고 건조할 것이라고 밝혔다.
The Navy is also planning to buy 36 used AAV-7 assault amphibious vehicles from the United States.
해군은 미국으로부터 36대의 중고 AAV-7 상륙전투장갑차 구매도 계획 중이다.
With its river-crossing ability, the AAV-7 will help strengthen the mobility and expeditionary capabilities of the Marine Corps, he said.

Legislator of the ruling Kuomintang Lin Yu-fang, however, questioned the necessity of the purchases given that the military already has 54 AAV-7s.

Equipped with 50-caliber machine guns and 40mm automatic grenades, the AAV-7 is not powerful enough, and it does not necessarily have better mobility than wheeled armored vehicles, Lin said.
