"Our three nations must look toward the future," said Carter told the Yomiuri, stressing the importance of close unity among Japan, the United States and South Korea. He also expressed his concern over the Japan-South Korea relationship, which has been worsening over so-called historical perception issues, and urged overcoming "yesterday's tensions and today's politics."
